Oaklands Greenways Project

Organization Mandate
To educate and inspire the Oaklands Community to use native plants in their yards (eg to "Naturescape" their yards" to:

a) promote the regeneration of the Garry oak trees
b) to decrease water usage
c) to eliminate the use of chemicals
d) to attract wildlife
e) to promote a healthy, green neighbourhood that connects with other greenways in surrounding neighbouroods

Locations
This project is located in the Oaklands neighbourhood within the City of Victoria municipality. The boundaries are between Cook and Shelbourne Streets and Bay and North Dairy. It includes the Cridge Centre, Bowker Creek (all underground) Oaklands Park and other smaller parks. Oaklands Green(formally known as Holly Green) Park is a native plant demonstration garden.

Current Activities and Projects
The Oaklands Greenways Project is presently developing a native plant demonstration garden in Holly Green Park. We have regular workparties to mulch, plant and weed. We gave just installed our garden entranceway, and soon a mosaic will be installed.

We have recently received funding from Van City Credit Union, TD Friends of the Environment and Shell Canada to continue our work in Holly Green Park. Funds from the Provincial Capital Commission helped us get started back in 2000.
