Waterbird Watch Collective

Organization Mandate
Waterbird Watch Collective is a non-government organization with 12 area coordinators and 180 members. The organization was founded in Autumn 1994 as a grassroots project involving advanced and amateur birders. Its goals are to protect marine habitat by monitoring and recording waterbird numbers, species, and locations; to map and monitor eagle, Osprey, heron, cormorant, and Black Oystercatcher nesting sites around the island; to encourage members to be proactive and to monitor water quality and foreshore disturbance; to lobby Federal, Provincial, and local governments to legislate buffer zones around eagle, Osprey, heron, cormorant, and Black Oystercatcher nesting sites; and to educate the public about waterbird habitat protection.
